AWARD WINNING ARTIST, INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED EDUCATOR
Hello, I’m Ekta Kaul — an artist, author, educator, and mum of two.
I grew up in India and have lived in London for the past fifteen years, where I work from a studio nestled on the edge of ancient woods on the fringes of the city. My work centres on creating narrative maps that explore themes of place, history, and belonging, using fibre and paint as my primary mediums.
Artmaking has been a steadying force in my life — the thread that has kept me tethered to myself through the experience of leaving my homeland, making a new home, navigating loss, and becoming a parent. Through this thread, I’ve been connected to so many thoughtful, generous people like you, across geographies, cultures, and lived experiences.
I believe the inner thread of creativity runs through all of us, and I’d love to invite you to weave something meaningful together.
MY STORY
I come from a family of academics in India, where science and scholarship shaped the world around me. Choosing a creative path meant stepping away from what was familiar — and eventually travelling thousands of miles to the UK to pursue my Master’s in Textiles.
I began my creative practice from scratch. Slowly, and often tentatively, I built a body of work rooted in patience, inquiry, and care — bringing together my love of making with a deep commitment to sharing knowledge and supporting others on their creative journeys.
Today, my work is exhibited and held in public and private collections internationally, including the Museum of London, the Crafts Council, Liberty of London, Gunnersbury Museum, Morgan Stanley, and the Tatter Blue Library (USA).
I’ve had the privilege of teaching at institutions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum and Kettle’s Yard, speaking at the British Parliament, and receiving awards including the 2021 Cockpit Arts Textile Prize. My work has been featured in publications including the Financial Times, Vogue, Selvedge, and Embroidery Magazine.
WHY LEARN FROM ME?
I know what it feels like to step away from the expected path and figure things out without a clear roadmap. I spent many years learning through trial and error — often alone — and I understand how much easier that journey can feel with the right guidance and community.
Inner Thread Circle is the space I wish I’d had when I was starting out.
It brings together two things I believe are essential to a sustainable creative practice:
Thoughtful guidance — shaped by years of making, teaching, and reflection — and
A supportive community — where creativity is shared, witnessed, and encouraged.
Together, these offer a way of working that feels less isolating, more connected, and deeply nourishing — allowing creativity to become an integrated part of life, rather than something squeezed in at the edges.
