Hello, I’m Ekta Kaul—an artist, author, educator and mum of two. I grew up in India and have lived in the UK for the last 20 years. I work from a studio nestled in an apple orchard and redwood lined grounds on the fringes of West London. My work focuses on creating narrative maps that explore themes of place, history, and belonging, using fiber and paint as my mediums.
MY STORY
Coming from a family of academics in India, where science and scholarship were the norm, I broke the mould when I chose to pursue a career in the creative arts. This decision led me thousands of miles from home to the UK, to puruse my Mastes in Textiles. Here, I began my creative journey from absolute scratch. Step by tiny step, I built a thriving artistic practice—one that combines my love of artmaking with my passion for empowering other women.
Today, my works are exhibited and collected internationally, including by prominent public and private institutions such as: Museum of London, Morgan Stanley, Crafts Council London,Liberty of London, Gunnersbury Museum, Tatter Blue Library (USA)
I’ve had the honor of speaking at the British Parliament, lecturing at world-class institutions like the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and Kettle’s Yard, Cambridhe and receiving awards such as the 2021 Cockpit Arts Textile Prize. My work has been featured in Financial Times, Vogue, Selvedge, Embroidery Magazine, and more.
