Kantha Embroidery One Day Virtual Masterclass

Venue Zoom

Date Saturday 25 July 2020. 11am – 5 pm

Course Outline

Kantha is a beautiful stitch technique from the Indian subcontinent with a rich heritage rooted in storytelling and upcycling. Used fabrics are layered, embroidered and repurposed into textiles for function or display.

Under Ekta’s guidance you will learn to use Kantha stitches to create pattern and texture. Taking inspiration from the rich tradition of Kantha textiles, you will explore how to extend this vocabulary into contemporary expressions of stitch. The outcome may be a wall piece or a panel that can be used in other projects.

Ekta will offer individual help and feedback to guide you. The emphasis will be on developing your personal ideas.  She will share her creative process and will have illustrative samples from her personal collection of  Kantha to share. By the end of the workshop you will have the skills and confidence to develop your Kantha project further.

Materials

A materials pack including fabric and threads will be sent to you. You may also use your own preloved fabrics or garments. If you are based outside the UK, there will be an additional change of £15 to cover shipping. Please email us at info (at) ektakaul (dot) com

Where will the course take place

Kantha virtual masterclass will be held on Zoom. A link to the class will be sent to you. The number of participants is restricted to a small group to ensure all students have ample time to get individual feedback. You will need access to a laptop/tablet with a camera and microphone.
