What will we do

This course will focus on slowing down, taking the time to observe and developing mindfulness through creativity. Responding to the shapes and colours in a favourite garden or landscape, the students will explore simple mark making using ink and paints. Under Textile Artist Ekta Kaul’s gentle guidance you will learn to translate your marks into embroidered surfaces by using a variety of hand embroidery stitches. Ekta will demonstrate mark making methods as well as stitches whilst guiding you in developing personal responses. She will also share processes and techniques that she uses within her own work. A Wabi-Sabi approach will be explored, consequently the focus will remain on being creative rather than achieving perfection. This course is suitable for absolute beginners as well as those who are more experienced.

What you need to bring

All materials, use of tools and equipment is included. Please bring along an image of a landscape or garden that inspires you.

“What a wonderful experience- to share stories of place and belonging while learning from Ekta. It was a fantastic day! Your work is inspirational.”

Susy Stirling, Sheffield

“I so enjoyed the course – it was really well structured and delivered in a way that was supportive, encouraged confidence and crucially – was hugely inspiring. I went home, my head buzzing with ideas and have already managed to carve out some time to do some embroidery. You are a very talented artist and a great communicator. Thank you.”
