Session 1 | 8 Dec 2023 | Applique from Rajasthan

Vibrant wall hangings, quilts and coverlets made with applique are seen everywhere in Rajasthan, bringing joyful relief to the monochrome of the desert. They are incredible examples of sustainable textiles created with offcuts and repurposed cloth.  Learn negative applique technique which is used to create these appliqued quilts. You will learn to create designs by cutting directly into the cloth to develop your own geometric and floral patterns design and learn to applique it.

Session 2 |12 Jan 2024 | Phulkari Embroidery

Phulkari is counted thread embroidery from Punjab in Northern India. Phulkari shawls were embroidered by women with geometric patterns in vibrant threads as gifts for their daughters’ trousseau. Designs ranged from bagh which covered the entire surface of the cloth, to chope with more restrained geometrical designs. You will learn to create a phulkari motif and embroider it using the counted thread method.
